Nordstrom Rideau Centre
Nordstrom entrusted Govan Brown with their expansion into the Ontario market including, Ottawa and two locations in Toronto; Yorkdale Shopping Centre and the Toronto Eaton Centre being the Canadian Flagship store. The Nordstrom space occupies two floors and 157,000 square feet of Ottawa’s Rideau Shopping Centre. It is the anchor store for a major refurbishment of the Rideau Centre. Adjacent to the Mackenzie King Bridge, the Nordstrom’s exterior facade is clad in porcelain tile. The store is adorned with inventive wood product displays and small furnished lifestyle vignettes. In addition to the retail build-out, the project scope also included a restaurant with a terrace and a coffee shop that opens directly on to the mall. The space includes all of the latest Nordstrom design concepts, including an abundance of natural light, luxurious stone and carpeted floors. In addition to the interior renovations, we also renovated the exterior and public areas outside of the Nordstrom store. Due to the popular location, this meant creating temporary throughways for pedestrians and passengers seeking transit terminals surrounding the location. Areas of concern included the newly renovated Nordstrom court and the Mackenzie King Bridge in particular as extensive exterior cladding work was being done overhead.
