Pharma Medica
The new-build Pharma Medica building is a 125,000 foot space dedicated to medical research. The building is comprised of two floors and houses upwards of 200 patients at any one time with stays ranging from two days to two weeks. The new, stand-alone location, replaces what would have been several different locations. The project, which took a year to complete from pre-construction to move-in, was a two floor base build with an optional third floor for future development. Begun in March of 2007, the progress of the project was halted when a six week labour strike occurred in June of that year. Despite the strike, our team managed to complete the project in the allotted ten-month construction schedule. Through detailed planning and innovative winter construction methods, we were able to complete the project on schedule. The beautifully landscaped space is complemented by both exterior and interior finishes done by our base building division. A considerable design element that demonstrates the aesthetic and functional aspect of the facility are the glazed windows which reduce the amount of light required for the entry of soft, natural lighting throughout the rooms while also providing a clean modern look to the exterior of the building. The Pharma Medica project was a prime example of Govan Brown’s diverse capabilities.
