GCworkplace
In an effort to follow the private sector’s new trends for reinventing the modern workplace, the Government of Canada has also been re-envisioning how their own employees work. Across its many departments, this shift towards workplace modernization, dubbed GCworkplace, is being embarked upon in the hopes that such improvements to the workplace environment will foster greater innovation, collaboration, and productivity among employees. Rather than electing a more traditional, solitary environment filled with cubicles, the GCworkplace is focused on creating an open space filled with variety, flexibly, and accessibility. Just recently, Govan Brown’s Ottawa team was able to claim their spot working for GCworkplace after completing a tenant fit-up for Public Services and Procurement Canada.
As a 21,000sf renovation project with boardrooms, lounge areas, and a telecoms room added to the scope of at the tail-end of construction, Govan Brown’s team needed to come to the table with solutions that would curtail the unique challenges posed by complex project governance as well as their enhanced procurement protocols. Although the project involved several federal services stakeholders in addition to the PSPC staff, Govan Brown was still able to ensure that the clients remained properly informed and satisfied with the end product.
Given the duration of such administrative tasks on top of an aggressive schedule, it was imperative that construction be properly coordinated with stringent resource management. An important aspect of this management was consistently providing solutions that would offset costs and reinforce net gains within the project’s budget.
Although the Govan Brown team was delt a difficult schedule, they faced each challenge with precision and managed to deliver the welcoming and collaborative workspace environment that GCworkplace envisioned for future government employees.
